With the increasing technology and apps we are completely surrounded by digitalization and its products. However with these tools of digitalization which helps us with minimizing the efforts, stress or manpower we have started encountering certain apps that can cost you your life. Mobile Apps and games have become one of the basic necessities especially for the youth of this generation. Parents or elders have tried to replace these with educational videos and virtual trainings for them to get involved with something more beneficial. However yet being under the supervision of the elders and certain youth’s (sometimes even elders) becomes a victim of certain dangerous games and apps. One of them named “BLUE WHALE CHALLENGE” is on the top today which has approximately taken 100 lives and is increasing day by day.
The media has reported around more than a 100 cases from across the globe of youth (sometimes elders) falling prey to this application. The link for the games was downloadable from various platforms earlier and after the removal of the link from major online stores these extension (links) are being sent via messages by a majority of youth. The challenges in the applications are so appealing that it makes youth and others playing it feel that the virtual world is real for them.
This application was so convincing that it spread across the globe in no time. It neither needed big advertisements nor any reference to become very famous amongst the young generation. It is said to involve 50 challenges which are monitored by a curator. They include watching horror movies and inflicting self-harm. The players are expected to take photos of them undertaking the challenge and upload them as proofs for the curator’s approval. The last challenge is to commit “SUICIDE”.
Applications like these are all over on the internet which can be easily downloaded. However educating ourselves first and then also aiding the youth with the appropriate knowledge regarding the same can help us be prepared against these life costing applications. We need to mould the digital generation today as we cannot stop them from harnessing the digital products. But educating them at an earlier stage can help us making a generation which is not only just digital but also is a safe digital generation.
